A string of lights, white and blue that dangle down appearing to be
icicles were strung across the front awning. Multicolored lights were
around the French doors. Then the wind and rain came. The lights
around the awning were down. At this moment I contemplated the
motivation behind the effort to put up Christmas lights. Was the
manpower and effort worth it? What did I hope to do with the
decorations? Hmm?
The Holy Spirit had a conversation with me. Was I behaving like “Clark”
in the traditional seasonal movie? He had no concept of Jesus or the
message being sent. Mostly it was one of indulgence in fleshly
activities. The family gatherings were remembered. It was an attempt
to regain some of the joy of past experiences. Family gatherings may or
may not be of spiritual benefits. Sometimes they turn into a verbal
brawl and hurt feelings. This is especially true if Christ is left out of the
gathering.
So, what am I saying with the lights? Hopefully I am saying the coming
of Jesus was good news for all who would believe in Him. Let your
decorations say “There is good news for you. Jesus came to give you
joy. And, He is coming again to give Hope and a future.”
