Covering up sin

Have you ever tried to cover something you did so no one could see it? Maybe you spilled spaghetti sauce on your shirt (I’ve done this before). I tried to wash it out, but it left a reddish spot anyway. So I covered it with my tie. This was when I wore suits and ties a lot. Now, I wear multicolored shirts so the sauce blends in to the design. So I’ve gotten better at hiding my sauce mishaps. We do this with sinful behavior now and cover it by saying, “It’s OK because I’m under grace.”

I just heard Creflo Dollar preaching on this subject. We say we are not under the law but under grace, which is true. But, being “under” does not mean it’s covered by grace. The idea is that we are under the dominion of the grace of God through Jesus. In the old covenant atonement was only a cover. In the new covenant atonement is having the stain removed as if it was never there.

When the grace of God is applied to us we now have power to overcome the weight of sin which would defeat us. If you are struggling for victory over behavior that is ungodly, call on Jesus our Lord for His grace is enough to set you free. You shall know the truth and the truth will make you free.
