Monopoly is an interesting board game. Roger, my great
grandson, and I attempted to play a game. All seemed to be
going well. Roger was buying property, collecting rent, and
doing well in the game. Rhonan, my 7 year old great grandson,
came along and watched. He was intrigued by the tokens. He
chose a race car and later chose a battleship. He did not know
exactly how to play the game, but, he wanted to play with
money and other tokens in disregard to the purpose of the
game. Needless to say, the game was over.
In the same way, new born Christians sometime will play with
the concepts of faith and attempt to mold them to their
previous life style. They may enjoy the effort for a period of
time, but get bored or wear out. Usually they will just change
the game. What does this mean? They drift away from faith in
Christ and become unrecognizable as a follower of Jesus.
Rhonan will one day be mature enough to play the game of
Monopoly. Likewise, a new believer must be nurtured and
taught the principles of the kingdom of God so that he or she
may be a successful minister of the Lord. The Apostle Paul
said, “Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman
that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of
truth.” (2 Timothy 2:15).
