Photo in flame

As the flame was burning fiercely, I was burning old papers and magazines in the burn barrel in the back yard. I noticed a photograph was in the mix of papers. I saw the face of a family member smiling back at me. The fire was too hot and flaming for me to put my hand into the barrel and get it. The face at first bubbled and then flamed for a second. Then, the image was gone. A memory passed. A reflection printed on paper went up in smoke leaving only ashes.

What is a photograph? It is a moment in time caught through a lens, reflected on a chemical film, and then preserved to remind us of that moment. Some are big deals: a wedding, a birth, a death, an event, or just a face you would like to remember. The picture is not the real thing but a reminder of a moment in time.

God gave us a lasting imprint of His image in Jesus. His written word is a reminder of who and what He is and what He has done for us. The Holy Spirit imprints us with His presence all the time. Thus, we, as believers in Jesus, are photographs of Jesus Christ the Son of God for the whole world to see.
