Seeing is believing

Have you ever heard anyone say, “If I had not seen it I would have not believed it,”? Or, “Seeing is

believing.” But, this isn’t necessarily true. The most powerful thing in our universe is unseen: gravity. There are a number of things in our world that are unseen but we believe in them and depend on them. No questions about flipping on the light switch. We see the effects of gravity and electricity but we cannot see them. So in the physical world we operate by faith on unseen powers.

God’s word says, “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” (Hebrews 11:1). We are challenged to see beyond the physical reality to spiritual reality. When we look at this world everything is continually passing away. However, we may have eternal life by faith in Jesus Christ. As we learn to live by faith in Christ we will begin to reap all sorts of benefits from an unseen realm.

There is a concept called “Seed time and harvest,” which compares our faith in Christ to the planting of seeds. An action in the physical world or just planting a word spoken will function like a natural seed but only in the eternal realm. Second Corinthians 4:18 tells us that, “While we look not at the things which are seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal.” Thus, let us invest in things that are eternal by faith in Jesus Christ, thereby, we will receive eternal returns.
