Reading the philosophical section of the newspaper, the
comics, I saw two senior men sitting on a park bench. One said
to the other, “Will you ‘carpe diem?’” What does that mean?
Answer: “Seize the Day.” Older of them asked “What is the
opposite of that?” “Crappy diem,” the friend responded. He
said something to the effect, “That’s about right.” Each day
could be considered “crappy” by that observer.
Some people it seems have the focus on crappy days or manage
to find something in the day that seems crappy to them. Some
then, do not seize the day but the day seizes them. It seems
that they may have an occasional good thing happen, but they
look around until they can find something crappy to zero in on.
May I suggest an alternative?
If you are a believer and follower of Jesus, consider that you are
one of the, “Children of the light and the children of the day….”
(1Thessalonians 5:4). We have the light of God in us and with
us. No matter how gloomy the day seems, Jesus may shine
through us to brighten every one’s day.
