Things that are eternal....

The Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris was burned today. It seems that the fire started from repair

construction on the roof of the historic building. There seems to be a greater loss due to the art work that was destroyed with it. The structure represented early renaissance and late middle ages architecture. Many art lovers and French Catholic believers are saddened and mourn its loss. There is no way to calculate the loss in dollars.

But, let us remember it was a church building. The congregation of believers has lost a place to worship God. That’s sad. Likely there are other church buildings around town where they may continue to worship our Lord Jesus. This was a building made of wood, stones, and bricks. In time such structures will fall back to the earth. Who knows whether some hunchback may drop a lighted match and it will go up in flames? (I couldn’t let it pass up; no one else had the courage to make the connection)

“While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal.” (1Corinthians 4:18) Our buildings, art, houses, cars, clothes, and such are of value to us, however, our faith in Jesus places us beyond the things which we see. We soar into the eternal in Christ Jesus our Lord.
